How to set up two wireless routers on one modem connection? And make them separate networks.?

I own a restaurant and want to give my customers wireless access but not to my backoffice network. I realize there is software for hotspots but I don't need that much complexity. Need to create two separate wireless networks...I think.

  1. For simplicity with the option to bill people in the future, etc look into wireless solution from Meraki. http://www.meraki.com
  2. This is not simple as it requires someone with knowledge of networking (routing and switching) There are two ways you can do this. One way is to buy a SO/HO router http://www.amazon.com/Cisco-Ethernet-Security-Router-CISCO851-K9/dp/B000A439QS/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1230423438&sr=8-1 (you will need a certified cisco tech to complete this job) and configure it to support 2 vlans. One for guests of the resturant and one for the employees. You will also need to buy an access point http://www.amazon.com/Cisco-AIR-LAP1242G-A-K9-Aironet-1240AG-802-11G/dp/B000XMLA6S/ref=sr_1_17?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1230424078&sr=1-17 The second way is to buy 2 wireless routers and a simple 4 port switch. Connect both routers into switch and connect the feed from the ISP into that switch also. You then configure the routers to run RIP and configure one router(a) to act as a default gateway for the other router(b). Now you have to configure them individually (DHCP, Wireless etc). Now anytime traffic is sent to go through the internet for the customers it will go through router b through router a into the switch then out to the ISP (i hope i'm not losing anybody). Both networks will have to pass through the same gateway but they be serprate from each other. The first approach is the most expensive one but you will get what you pay for. The Wireless access point can be mounted in the most inconspicuous space. No need for ac outlets as the cable can carry power and the data to the device. The second approach is not for the faint at heart, you have to know what your doing if its gonna work. Plus there are draw backs to it. You have to place that wireless router where there is power and it must be able to cover the whole resturant for the customers. (no one wants to look at a big purple router while eating) If you want more info just hit me up. Hope this helps.
