Wireless Networks.? We have two laptops. One Compaq and the other HP - both new, fast and wirelss capable. We are sitting in the kitchen, computers side by side and the list of wireless networks available are different. Different connections and the individual connections differ in strength. Can anyone explain this. Secondly, we have set up a wireless router - cable - at my inlaws and their wireless router connection isn't the strongest signal. It is in the basement. How can I make their signals stronger?

Wireless networks? OK, I'm hoping someone can help me here. It's a bit of a strange one, and I wouldn't class myself as an expert but here's the problem and what I have done: I have a Sony Vaio and it seems that it is not refreshing the wireless networks regularly, so its failing to connect to my netgear router sometimes. The icon on my start bar will regulary display that there are no networks in range even when they are. Now I know there is'nt a problem with my netgear because it has the most up to date software on it and my PS3 connects to it no problem, first time everytime. It has to be something to do with the wireless drivers on my laptop. I can turn my laptop of and on again and usually this reboots and it will connect to the router, but sometimes, even when my laptop goes into sleep mode, when I click the mouse to reactivate it, it won't find or connect ato a wireless network. I can even flick the wireless switch on the laptop and it won't recognise its off and still say there are networks within range I have: disabled all firewalls and re-enabled them. Attempted to repair the wireless connection, although sometimes the wireless cannot connect to the IP address. Attempted to update the wireless drivers, they are upto date and fine. Checked for virus/errors that could be causing problems, nothing found. Reconfigured the router and input the settings again, several times. I've probably tried a few other things to, just can't remember. It's a confusing one but I'm hoping that one of you techy geezers will have a possible answer. Appreciation shown in the usual way

Trying to limit the time on the internet by using the wireless softwar but there is a nother wireless network in range that my kids connect to. Is there a way I can not let them connect to the other open network using some kind of administrator control? I can turn off my wireless router, but there is another in range that is set up open so they can connect to it by clicking on it, I was wondering if I can disable the wireless networking for the kids accounts. I can delete the other network but it keeps coming back when you refresh the networks in range

I own a pocket pc. Are these things capable of picking up free/unsecure wireless networks like a laptop can? It's an Audiovox XV6600. Just curious of this things wireless capabilities. Could I scan for a network and connect to it without having to subscribe to Verizon for access?

Program to monitor availble wireless networks? Saw it on a rev3 show tekzilla or systm cant remember which. It was a free download that monitored and graphed the name and signal strength of all the wireless networks in range. Does anyone remember this i googled around with no luck.

How do I connect 2 separate wireless network "cards" to 2 different wireless networks? I have read somewhere on here that you can have 2 separate networks with 2 separate wireless network cards. But it still doesn't work. The network "dies" when both are enabled, but if I disable 1, then the other one works. Why? they're 2 different networks & "cards" (I say 'cards' because, 1 is a card & the other is a usb adapter) I need to find out how to configure the network if thats what's needed. BTW, I have access to only ONE of the routers (network only), but not the router with the internet. The reason for this is my actual card has a bad antenea, but will connect with the router right next to it (Network only). The USB is brand new & connects to the router with the internet. Thanx I think I was alittle missunderstood, I have access to both routers LEGALY, 1 is owned by the motel I'm staying (EG: I have legal access) & the other is physically in my room (The one I want to use for network only).
