How does built-in wireless connection work in a laptop? I understand that I can get wireless internet connection if my laptop has a built-in wireless card for as long as I'm in a "hotspot" where I get connection from radio waves. How true is that? I am planning to get a laptop, but I'm not sure if where we live now is actually a "hotspot" or not where I could use it for regular web surfing? We do have broadband internet for our desktop now, but I don't want to have a wireless router connected to that as it is connected to my work/company's computer, I trust wired network better for that. If there is a DSL or Cable internet provider in our area, will that give a big possibility that I will be able to get good signal for the laptop's wireless internet connection? Where do built-in wireless cards get their signals anyway? Is it possible that I will be getting a signal from other people's wireless connection? Can anyone explain this to me? I'm all confused. Thanks a lot!
How can I get a wireless network on my computer? I reformatted my computer yesterday but now wireless doesn't work, so I can't connect to the internet as there is no wireless network available on it. How can I get a wireless network up?
Can I used a wireless router to connect to another wireless router in my house? My dad just replaced our wireless router at home cause it was getting old. Can I use my old router to connect to my current one? I basically want to use it as a wireless receiver, but I assume it was made to send the connection, not to receive it. Can I still use it for this purpose?
How can I switch to a different Wireless network when using a wireless ethernet adapter/bridge? I keep getting connected to a wireless network across the street. I am running Windows 98 on this desk top so there is no little wireless icon in the system tray like on XP. The wireless adapter is connected through a ethernet card that was an add on for my desk top. I'm not sure how I can switch wireless networks. The wireless adapter does not come with any software. It's just a plug in thing. Any ideas appreciated.

How can I change my wireless internet connection to an Ethernet connection using my computer? I use a wireless card to connect my desktop to the internet. I Also want to connect my ps2 in the same room to the internet. The router is to far away for it to be practical running a lan cable from it to the ps2. I am currently able to get one of my ps2 games online using ics on Windows XP and an extra lan card on the desktop but the other 2 games won't work. I know ics is not ideal for this and even with the Windows firewall off most of the ports the games use are blocked. My question is are there any programs that will fix this or better yet is there any boot disc that I can start my computer with (something linux based) that will make my computer a pass through using my wireless card and lan card? Then when I'm done pop the disk out, reboot, and start windows normally? Both cards are Realtek based, the wireless is an rtl8180 and the lan is a rtl8139c. Any ideas? I ment something Linux based that works like the Knoppix live cd. I can pop in it when I boot, maybe save the settings for it on one of my hard drives or a floppy or pen drive. Then when I'm done gaming, remove the disk and restart the computer. I know there is some firewall software like this but I don't know it it supports wireless cards.

Can wireless radio fences be used with greyhounds? We have discussed adopting a greyhound in the past, but are unsure if our wireless fence can be used with a greyhound. We have a pool fenced in the back yard, but the layout of our property does not really allow a regular fence. We live in a rural setting with wildlife around, but relatively close to a large arboritum and semi-busy road. Our dog does great on the wireless fence, but I can't find any information if they are appropriate for retired racing greyhounds due to their speed. There are some days we may not be able to walk the dog due to the kids sport and school activities. Our dog gets most of his exercise through running in the yard (with the wireless fence) with the kids and playing ball in the house. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Any ideas for wireless solutions linking a mac to a stereo and speakers and tv to stereo? we have just moved house and need wireless only solutions around the house in connecting a mac (osx 10.4) to a sony hifi in a different room to link up and play itunes through the stereo. we need a wireless modem and adaptor to connect to broadband as phone line is in a separate hallway. we also would like a wireless connection from our samsung (new) tv to the same stereo to again play sound through the speakers. also are there any decent wireless speakers for a mac as ideally we would like speakers for the same room where the mac is and also our bedroom. i have looked at airport express etc and visited many shops but am baffled with it all. sounds a lot i know but please advise in plain english exactly how everything would work and cost. all the above has to be reasonably good quality but also affordable. I know i already stated it is a mac so must be mac compatible, if you do not know this please don't answer the question. Cheers.
